1st Choice Housing/Clayton Nightmare

Our nightmare began in February 2021. After months of searching for land and finding the perfect plot for our family, we bought it and began the process of deciding to build or buy a modular. We looked at 1000’s of floor plans, model homes, and toyed with the idea of designing our own. I wanted my wife to have her dream home the way she wanted it. So we finally arrived at 1st Choice Housing in Statesville, NC. Upon arriving we walked into every home on the lot. We couldn’t find one that met or needs or design wishes and thought we had hit a dead end. After returning inside to let them know, they informed us that even the doublewides on the lot could be made into modular homes. We explained what we were looking for and that none of those met the requirements. The manager of the office asked us to wait just a few minutes while she went and talked to someone. She came back into the office and said we have a new home getting set up today and they said they will stop what they are doing for us to peek inside and see what we thought. After standing a ladder up to get into the front door, we entered and my wife fell in love instantly. To the point that the only thing we would change is the color of a few things. We prayed and talked it over the next couple weeks and ultimately decided that it was the house we wanted. We proceeded with obtaining financing and returned to the office to order. The process was smooth and streamlined. Almost to easy was the feeling I got but I ignored that feeling to my dismay.
